Ultra-Mobile Devices (UMDs, MIDs, UMPC, Netbooks) |
Tunable RF – Enabling PC’s to Communicate 24x7
|
| At an estimated CAGR of 150% + over the next 5 years, the fastest growing segment in consumer electronics is Ultra-Mobile Devices (UMDs), consisting of MIDS (mobile internet devices), UMPC (utra-mobile personal computers) and netbooks. This does not include the expected volumes driven by the convergence of the “Smartphone” (SMP) with this segment. Key attributes of these devices are ubiquitous communications (WiFi, BT, FM, UWB, Cellular (3G), GPS), continuous access, and small size, without a compromise of functionality or battery-life. Consumers expect and demand that internet speeds (data throughput) not be slow or interrupted. As WiMax and 4G technologies are added, only one solution enables OEMs and ODMs to offer continuous communications with smaller form-factors, and no impact on battery life or BOM- tunable RF.
Similar to what WiSry provides to the mobile terminal OEMs and ODMs, WiSpry is able to provide tunable digital capacitor arrays which can be optimized as; antenna tuners (TA), which reduces the number of existing antennas and optimizes the existing elements; tunable impedance matching devices (TIM), which optimizes the RF front-end matching; tunable filters (TF) and tunable duplexors (TDP). These functions offer broadband performance, hi Q and low loss- while conserving space, battery power and BOM.
